Version 22.52
Rollout Start: March 1, 2023
Mapping Runs: More efficient than ever
Roomba will now pick up where it left off if a mapping run is interrupted. This might happen if it couldn’t reach part of your space because of a closed door or sand worm blocking its way, or if you needed to stop the robot while you watch Dune. Instead of retracing its steps, it will search for unknown areas and add them to the existing map.
Stay charged up
We improved Roomba’s ability to stay charged on its charging station so it’s always ready to go when you need it. Roomba has improved navigation when approaching and docking on the charging station, and will give an extra little push to make sure it’s secure. It will also do a better job of redocking if it accidentally gets bumped off its charging station. To ensure optimal performance, we recommend following our basic care tips for the Home Base charging station.
Squashed some bugs
By squashed, we mean set them free outside
- Fixed a bug that prevented Braava m6 from starting its part of a Linked Cleaning job
- Resolved a problem that prevented the light ring from turning off in some Roomba i7s
- Fixed a map bug that would lead Roomba to try (unsuccessfully) to get through a wall
- If you do a Mapping Run to add to a map you already have, Roomba now stays out of any existing keep-out zones
- Fixed a bug that could cause a Mapping Run to end before it was done
- Fixed a bug which could cause Roomba to clean rooms in the wrong order during Directed Room Cleaning
- Fixed bug where Roomba would return to a room after it was skipped
- Fixed a bug where job History in the iRobot HOME App displays “Unable to empty the bin: communication problem”, when everything was actually fine
Version 22.37
Rollout Start: November 16, 2022
New sound when you place Roomba to charge
Next time you physically place Roomba onto its Home Base charging station or Clean Base, it will play a sound to let you know it’s in the right place and ready to charge. If you’re still having trouble with this, make sure the silver charging contacts are lined up and there’s not too much residue build-up on them.
Improved room detection with new maps
Next time Roomba creates a new Imprint™ Smart Map, the room dividers it creates will match up better to what you see in your home. J7 and J7 Combo will get this improvement first.
Smarter navigation in crowded spaces
We’re continuing to improve Roomba’s iAdapt® 3.0 intelligent navigation technology. Roomba does a better job of skipping places it can’t reach and finding its way out of crowded spaces.
- Rearranging furniture? No problem.
Improved cleaning direction across rooms
When Roomba does ‘one pass’ cleaning, it detects the shape of the room and cleans lengthwise, rather than spend more time making lots of turns across the shorter width. Larger rooms get cleaned in sections. Roomba has always had this feature, it just does it a little better now. Let’s just say it does a better job of “reading the room”.
Better docking
Precise docking is critical to reliable charging. This release brings several improvements to Roomba i7’s docking that help it get and stay securely on the charging station. You may notice Roomba moving to find the best spot on the Home Base for charging. If you notice your robot still has trouble charging, it might just need a little care and maintenance.
Squashed some bugs

Fixed a bug that prevented Braava m6 from starting its part of a Linked Cleaning Job

Version 22.29.3
Rollout Start: 10.5.2022
Clean around pet areas
Roomba now recognizes pet bowls and cat litter boxes and recommends a clean zone so you can quickly address the messes left behind by your busy pets. This adds to Roomba’s existing ability to recommend clean zones for sofas, kitchen counters and more.
Make maps fast
Want to map your home? Maybe you want to map your second floor for the first time, or start over with a floor you’ve already mapped. Map creation is now faster than ever. Follow these instructions to try it out. Just remember to keep the lights on, open doors, and tidy up before you send Roomba into uncharted territory for the first time!
Change your robot’s voice
Want to make Roomba’s voice sound different? With this release and iRobot Home App version 7.0 or higher, you can choose an alternate voice for Roomba in any of our supported languages. Use “Product Settings” on the iRobot Home App main screen to make the change.
Tell Roomba to move on
Does Roomba enter a room where you need a little peace and quiet? Now, you can simply press "Skip" during a job to send your robot to the next room! Requires the iRobot Home App version 7.0 or higher. Learn more here.
Squashed Some Bugs
We don’t need to bother you with all the details, but our engineering team has been hard at work squashing bugs that our users have reported. Thank you!
Here are a few examples:
-
Roomba now distinguishes problems with getting onto the Home Base from problems navigating to the Home Base area. You should see fewer “stuck” or “docking trouble” reports in open space far from the Home Base.
-
Updated Directed Room Cleaning to reduce cases where the robot travels outside the requested rooms in an effort to enter difficult-to-reach spots.
