Use this article to learn about the mopping features of your Roomba Combo® i5/i5+ and Roomba Combo® j5/j5+.
Table of Contents

Before starting your first mopping job, your Combo Bin will need to be activated.
To activate your Combo Bin, scan the QR code found on your Quick Start Guide or below. The iRobot® Home App will walk you through the set-up process. That process is also covered below.

- Ensure your Home Base or Clean Base® is placed on a non-carpeted floor.
- For robots that come with a Home Base, install the included plastic drip tray to catch liquid as your robot comes and goes.
- For robots that come with a Clean Base®, the Clean Base® provides this functionality.
- When the Combo Bin is installed, the robot will need to be emptied manually. The Combo Bin is not compatible with the self-emptying feature of the Clean Base®. Additionally, when the Combo Bin is installed, Dirt Detect is disabled. Once the original Dust Bin is installed, the robot will empty itself as usual, and Dirt Detect functionality will also return.
- Your robot cannot detect floor types or where carpets and area rugs are located. If you have an area you would not like to be mopped or carpet, please follow the steps below to set up Keep Out Zones. Once No Mop Zones are created, the robot will automatically use the map with the Keep Out Zones present.
-
In the iRobot® Home App, navigate to the desired map
-
Select Zones
-
Select No Mop Zones and place the zones over the areas you do not want the robot to mop
-
Install the original (non-Combo) bin. Your robot will do a better job at mapping with the original bin, as the Combo bin’s pad can get slowed down on carpet or thresholds.
-
In the iRobot® Home App, either run clean everywhere jobs or mapping runs to complete your map. See here for more detail (Beginner's Guide to Imprint™ Smart Maps)
-
Once you have a completed map in the iRobot® Home App, navigate to the desired map
-
Select Zones
- Select the No Mop Zone and place the zones over the areas you do not want your robot to go to when the mop is attached
- Do not place a No Mop Zone on where the Home Base or Clean Base is located
- Important Note for Rugs / Carpet — Your robot cannot detect floor types or where carpets and area rugs are located. Roomba Combo® i5/i5+ does not support keep-out zones. If you have area you would not like to be mopped, like carpet, please set up a virtual wall, physically block off the space, or remove the rugs temporarily if possible.

Why is my tank leaking?
Remember to always store the robot with Dust Bin installed, do not leave Combo bin in the robot as water will continue to wick into the pad.
Important Note: If a Combo Bin is left installed, water will wick out and wet the pad. This could cause flooring damage.
Why is my robot not emptying when returning to the Clean Base®?
When the Combo Bin is installed, the robot will need to be emptied manually. The Combo Bin is not compatible with the self-emptying feature of the Clean Base®. Once the original bin is installed, the robot will empty itself as usual.
If your robot is not emptying while using the Dust Bin, Click Here for additional troubleshooting.
Incorrect Bin Detected:
If your robot is reporting the Combo Bin is installed when the Dust Bin is installed, visit the “Roomba Combo i Series Bin Detection” article for additional troubleshooting steps.
What is the maximum height of a threshold that Roomba Combo® can transition over?
When Roomba Combo® has the Combo Bin installed, the maximum height of threshold that it can transition over is reduced from 16 mm to 12 mm. When the standard debris bin is installed, the maximum height the robot can transition over is 16 mm.
Clean Base® Ingested Water
If Roomba has evacuated water into the Clean Base®, it is likely you have not provisioned your wet mopping bin. Please scan the QR code on the bin to set your robot up for mopping.
If moisture is found in your evacuation bag, please discard it and insert a new bag. Failure to remove a wet evacuation bag can retain moisture and create an ideal environment for mold and unpleasant odors. Be sure to wipe away any remaining moisture trapped in the base with a clean, dry cloth.
Note: Do not pour any liquids into the device or immerse in water. Do not allow liquids to get on or into the Auto-Fill Dock. Do not use Roomba or the dock outdoors or on wet surfaces.
