IFTTT Integrations Partners and Automation Experiences

Article Details
IFTTT is a technology partner that enables your robots to seamlessly connect to a wide range of different services supported in the iRobot HOME app, as well as from the broader IFTTT ecosystem. In a way, IFTTT works as a matchmaker between your robot and other smart home devices and services so they can work together for cleaning that works around you. For example, you can set your robot to start cleaning after you lock your front door or when you and your phone leave a defined zone around your house. You can also set your robot to return to its charging base after your thermostat detects you have returned home.

Upon activating one of the supported services through the iRobot app, an IFTTT account will automatically be created for you if you do not already have an existing IFTTT account. There are never additional fees for having an IFTTT account that works with an iRobot supported automation set up in the iRobot HOME app.

Some of the services we offer for smart home automations which are powered by IFTTT include:

  • Location Services
    • Use your phone’s location to tell your robot when you leave or return home
  • August locks
    • Send your robot to clean when your door locks or unlocks
  • Ecobee thermostats
    • Send your robot to clean when your thermostat senses you are away
  • Leviton
    • Send your robot to clean when you activate a Leviton activity
  • MyQ Smart Garage
    • Send your robot to clean when you open or close your garage door

*Note: Starting on November 6, 2020, automations powered by Life360 will unfortunately no longer be supported. Existing scheduled automations set up with Life360 will be disabled, but stay tuned for upcoming automation options and improvements!

Partner Prerequisites and Set Up Tips

Before using your robot with an IFTTT service, some setup may be required. See below for prerequisites and setup tips per automation partner.

Location Services

In order to set up and reliably run an automation powered by your phone’s location settings – and according to a zone you define around your home – you need to opt-in and edit your Settings for location sharing to “Always.” iRobot works with IFTTT as a trusted technology partner to power accurate location services to enhance your automations.

For Android: Go to Settings > Location

  • Make sure location services are on
  • Select the iRobot App, to set "Location Access/Permission” and "Allow Always/all the time”
  • Enable "Precise Location"

For iPhone: Go to Settings -> iRobot Home App

  • Make sure Background App Refresh is set to on.
  • You should see a purple or grey arrow next to the iRobot app as shown in the image below.

"Clean When I'm Away" automation still isn't working?

Some users have found that toggling the location service off and back on again in the app can help. In the iRobot HOME app, navigate to:

  • Main menu > Smart Home > Accounts and Devices > Location Services > Disconnect from Location Services
  • Back to Main menu > Smart Home > Automations > When I leave home > Location Services > Save/Connect

You might also try deleting the current automation and setting it up again. Make sure the radius of your geofence is set at 200mts.

Note that if the same iRobot account is logged into multiple devices, then any time any of these devices leaves the defined radius around the home address, an automation can be run. In order to ensure this will run on any device, you will need to open the app on the intended device and accept the location permissions after an automated schedule has been setup and created.
