ClearView™ LiDAR Maps:

  • Let you control when, where, and how Roomba cleans
  • Are faster and more accurate than previous Smart Maps
  • Are only available on Roomba 105, 205, 405, 505 and 705. If you have a different model, please visit this article instead — Guide to Imprint™ Smart Maps.
  • Are created 15–20 minutes faster than previous Smart Map models. If obstacles are moved between missions, LiDAR robots will act more responsively, by updating navigation patterns in real time.

Note: Map features and device compatibility require pairing with an iRobot® Home account and that your Roomba® Home App and robot software version are running the latest version available. Device availability varies by region (not available in Russia and China). Supported languages may be limited in your region. Please check with the manufacturer (Amazon Alexa/Google Assistant) for more information.

Before We Start Cleaning

We recommend you tidy up a little and turn the lights in your house on for the Roomba.

Similar to a standard vacuums, these robots can run into issues if they encounter rogue clothes, shoelaces, cords, or any obstacle that may get caught in the rollers or cause the robot to get stuck. While general clutter such as shoes or toys won't affect the ClearView™ LiDAR Map, it's still recommended you keep your floors clear to allow your robot to map as much of the desired area as possible with minimal intervention. Please prepare your home for Roomba’s map creation by removing any obstacles and opening all doors so that your robot may explore the entire space.

To ensure the best performance, it's recommended you open window shades or turn on the lights while running the robot. Lighting is necessary for the robot to navigate.

Creating a New Map

From your home screen, click, ”Create a Map”.

Depending on the size of your home, map creation may take up to 30 minutes and Roomba may have to recharge in between rooms. During mapping, Roomba will:

  • Automatically avoid stairs or drop-offs
  • Enter any available space (do not close the door behind it)
  • Focus on mapping and will not clean
  • End on the dock and take a few minutes to save the map
  • Need to complete the mapping run without interference (do not pick up the robot/dock; do not press any buttons). This could cause an incomplete map.

Note: There is no map size limit for these robots.

Note (only for Roomba 505 / 705 ): Object Detection is enabled during mapping, meaning the 505 will detect and avoid objects during a mapping run.

Map Customization

You will be prompted through the app when your first map is ready to be customized! Your robot will create and name rooms automatically to get you started. If the map looks correct, you can choose to ”Skip customization” and use the map Roomba has created!

The map name is automatically set to ”Main Floor”. You may choose to edit your map so that it matches the way you think about your home’s layout.

Editing lets you:

  • Change your room names. You can choose to rename rooms or the map itself.

  • Merge/Split rooms
    • ”Merge” lets you select neighboring rooms to merge into one larger room.
    • ”Split” lets you divide the room into two smaller areas.
    • To move a divider, first merge rooms, then split to your liking.

Note: Cleaning settings will revert-back to default after rooms are merged or split.

  • Add zones
    • ”Keep out Zones” will stop your robot from entering an area.
    • ”No mop Zones” will stop your combo robot from mopping in that area, but the Roomba will still vacuum.

You can also do all this later in ”My Home” tab.

Zones

Keep Out Zones

Set up Keep Out Zones in areas you want your robot to avoid. Help Roomba complete more jobs successfully by placing these zones in areas where it may get stuck, such as around TV wires or crowded corners.

No Mop Zones (mopping/combo robots only)

Place these over areas that shouldn't be mopped but can still be vacuumed. These zones can be useful for hard floors that shouldn't get wet.

Clean Zones

Clean Zones allow you to send your robot to target specific areas of your home for cleaning. They will appear on your room list so you may add them to specific cleaning jobs, favorites, or schedules.

How to Add a New Space

How to Add a New Room

Even after your map has been customized, you can still add a new room to your map. Do not put the robot directly in the new space.

  • Let it clean the entire area you want to be mapped.
  • Make sure your robot can physically access all the areas you would like to map!
  • After the job, your Clean Map will highlight ”New Space Found” and your ClearView™ LiDAR Map should automatically update with the new space.

How to Add a Separate Floor, New Home, or New Map

To map an entirely separate space, simply bring your robot to the new area and send it on a ”Clean Everywhere” mission. Once your robot realizes it is in a new and unmapped area, it will create a second map at the end of the cleaning job.

You can move the changing station to another location. However, moving the dock frequently is not recommended because the robot uses the base as a point of reference when beginning a mission. If you find yourself having to constantly move the dock to a different floor or home, we recommend you purchase a second dock instead from iRobot Store - Parts and Accessories or from an authorized retailer.

Each model robot can only support a limited number of saved maps. If you create too many maps, the most recent map will be saved, and the oldest one will be erased.

Routines

”Favorites” are now called ”Routines”. There is no ”New Job”. All missions will be started and managed through ”Routines”.

The simplest way to start cleaning is by tapping a ”Routine” card, found above the map. When you tap a recommended, recent, or saved routine, the map will show you the selected rooms and the ”Routine Builder” will open, prepopulated with both where and how to clean.

Under Routine Preferences, there are 4 cleaning options:

  • Light: Medium suction, light liquid, 1 pass, smart scrub off
  • Normal: High suction, standard liquid, 1 pass, smart scrub off
  • Deep: Max suction, high liquid, 2 pass, smart scrub on
  • Smart: Adjusts cleaning settings for each room to match its level of dirtiness.

You can also build a routine from scratch by tapping a room on the map, or the ”New Routine” card on the ”Quick Start” shelf. You can monitor your robot’s real-time position, coverage, and cleaning path during any cleaning routine.

Click here to see what the App will show you:

Note (only for Roomba 505 /705): Detected obstacles will show on the map.

Cleaning time, remaining and timeline will be available with real-time map. You can also zoom into the map to see your robot's path.

Click here to see what the App will show you:

You will see a routine history automatically on ”My Home” tab when a cleaning routine is complete. ”History” highlights the cleaning map, displaying coverage, trajectory, and the robot's last known location.

Note: These history maps are saved for 10 days and can be reviewed at any time from ”My Home” tab.

Click here to see what the App will show you:

Note: Only on the Roomba 705, mission history can be viewed in 3D

To delete a routine, the routine must be opened through the Automations tab.

Troubleshooting

Mirrors

LiDAR works by sending out laser beams to measure distances and build a map of your home. Surfaces like mirrors, windows, or shiny furniture can reflect or scatter these beams in unexpected ways, resulting in less accurate navigation, missing areas, false barriers, or confusing layouts. Here are a couple ideas that may help improve performance.

  • Improve Lighting: In some cases, improving ambient lighting helps certain vision systems, (especially camera based ones) better distinguishing reflections from real obstacles.
  • Use Physical Blockers: Place a small object (like a rug edge or light tape marker) in front of glass doors or mirrors so the robot recognizes a boundary.
  • Keep Out Zones: After a map is created, we recommend using KoZs to avoid areas with reflective or glass surfaces.

Extra rooms. Not cleaning a room. Phantom rooms

LiDAR will always detect and include rooms it can see, but cannot reach; Such as the bottom of stairs, through glass doorways, etc. These rooms will appear on the map, but are inaccessible by the robot. If you see an extra room on your map that the robot isn't cleaning, check your home layout, as this may be expected behavior. These rooms may even be outside, like a yard or garden. There is currently no way to delete this extra map space. We apologize for the inconvenience. We recommend you split the rooms and label that inaccessible area accordingly.
